VASER® Lipo

VASER LiposuctionWhen you are looking for body sculpting with less downtime than traditional liposuction, VASER Lipo at our Long Island practice may be a good choice. VASER Lipo provides precise, selective fat removal from both traditional and hard-to-treat areas, including the arms, neck, knees, waist, and thighs. VASER technology uses ultrasound energy to help break apart fat cells so that they can be removed more easily, with less manual force. As a result, our patients typically enjoy a slimmer new shape with reduced bruising and swelling, and a more comfortable recovery.

VASER Lipo uses a unique process called LipoSelection® to target unwanted fat from specific areas of the body. This makes VASER Lipo effective for both large and delicate areas. Additionally, VASER Lipo is tissue-selective, meaning that the ultrasound energy is able to break apart unwanted fat without harming nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues.

The Benefits of VASER Lipo

While traditional liposuction is an excellent option for many of our patients, VASER Lipo offers a shortened recovery, as well as:

  • Predictable results and less chance for skin dimpling or irregularities
  • Maintained integrity of the surrounding tissues
  • Precise, controlled fat removal
  • Reduced bruising and swelling after surgery
  • Shorter incisions
  • Effective for large and small areas of fat

Dr. Romanelli has chosen to incorporate VASER Lipo into his practice because the fat cells removed with VASER Lipo are left unharmed and viable. This is very important because it means that the healthy fat cells can be used during fat transfer procedures such as a Brazilian butt lift. Methods such as Smartlipo™ kill the fat cells, rendering them useless for fat transfer.

Dr. Romanelli or Dr. Pincus will evaluate you and determine whether or not VASER Lipo is the best fat removal method for you. In some cases, VASER Lipo may be used during combination procedures like a Mommy Makeover.

Your VASER Lipo Treatment

VASER Lipo can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. First, a tumescent saline solution is injected into the site to numb the area and shrink blood vessels. Then, your surgeon will make a small incision through which the VASER probe is inserted. This instrument transmits ultrasound energy to gently break apart fat cells for removal. The liquefied fat is then suctioned out with a thin hollow tube called a cannula.

Once your procedure is complete, you can return home. You may be asked to wear a compression garment to help speed healing and minimize swelling. Your recovery time will depend on how much fat was removed and where. Typically, our patients are ready to return to work within a few days and feel significantly better by about 2 weeks. Results are immediately noticeable and will continue to develop over the next 3 to 6 months.
