Case #54 Details
A tall, active 20 year old college student came to our Long Island office because he felt his chin was too weak. He was interested in a chin implant, and was anxious to get this done over Christmas, before returning to school. We carefully evaluated his facial features and agreed that his chin could be stronger. When a chin is weak it can make the nose look too large.
While it is possible to surgically cut and move forward the bone of the chin, for most patients placing a chin implant is the best choice. And that was our advice to this Suffolk County resident. We decided together to use a small access incision beneath the chin (the other choice is an incision inside the lower lip), and that incision was only about 3/4 of an inch long, in a natural crease.
He was excited on the day of surgery, and the anesthesia given was a sedative anesthetic, which kept him in a comfortable "twilight," without the need for general anesthesia. The surgery was performed at our private, certified operating facility at our Huntington, NY plastic surgery office. We used an anatomically shaped solid silicone implant, size 43. Our college student was sore the first day or two, but stopped pain mediation immediately thereafter.
He recovered quickly, and his post-operative photographs show him just 2 weeks after surgery. No bruising. Strong jawline. Happy patient. And especially on the side view he now has great symmetry and balance between his nose and chin. We are delighted with his recovery.
