Lip Enhancement

Over time, the volume and softness of our lips can diminish, an indication of aging that can be difficult to hide with makeup. Lip injections for our NYC or Long Island patients can restore a youthful, plump appearance that subtly takes years off their faces. Dr. James Romanelli and Dr. David Pincus, personally perform a variety of lip enhancement options, from injectable fillers to fat grafts.

If you're curious about enhancing your lips, request a consultation online, or call our office at (631) 424-3600 to book an appointment with one of our talented, experienced cosmetic surgeons.

Your Lip Enhancement Procedure

During your consultation, either Dr. Romanelli or Dr. Pincus discusses your goals and expectations for lip augmentation. Your surgeon will determine which course of action is right for you, whether it's a series of injectable fillers or a surgical fat transfer, and then create a customized treatment plan.

Injectable Fillers

Some facial fillers, such as Restylane®, and JUVÉDERM® contain a chemical called hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the skin. Filler results are soft, subtle, and natural-looking, and their effects last for up to about 12 months.

Facial fillers are injected into the lips using a fine needle. Though slight swelling is normal for the first 48 hours, ice and over-the-counter pain relievers will help. Patients who use an injectable filler for their lip enhancement on Long Island can plan to live their live uninterrupted.

Fat Transfer

A fat transfer procedure is an extremely popular option for those who want more maximized and long-lasting results. During a fat transfer, excess fat from your own body is removed via minor liposuction from a donor site, usually the abdomen or hips. The fat is then injected into your lips. Because the fat comes from your own body, the risk of an adverse reaction is very low. The results of a fat transfer can last for years, and some fat remains in the lips permanently.

After a fat grafting procedure, your lips will be swollen and will appear too large for up to 2 weeks, and stiffness can last for up to 1 month. Most people return to work and other activities within 10 to 14 days.

Common Questions

Which lip enhancement option is right for me?

Romanelli Cosmetic Surgery offers a variety of lip enhancement techniques to suit the unique needs of every patient. Either Dr. Romanelli or Dr. Pincus will work with you to determine which procedure will provide you with the results you want.

Why do some people look so overdone after having lip enhancement?

That overinflated "duck lips" appearance is usually caused by visiting an inexperienced practitioner for a lip enhancement procedure. As with any cosmetic treatment, having your lip enhancement performed by a plastic surgery specialist in a safe medical environment can be the difference between a beautiful enhancement and that telltale overdone look. An experienced practitioner will provide subtle, natural-looking results that enhance your appearance rather than transform it.

Some swelling is typical after any lip enhancement procedure, but it is temporary. We will discuss what you can expect after your treatment.

Can I combine lip enhancement with another procedure?

Absolutely. Many patients undergo injectable filler treatments at various locations on the face in one session, or add BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment to reduce forehead lines or "the elevens" between the eyebrows. Combining these treatments into one appointment can save time and maximize results, and it's a popular option for patients seeking to put the finishing touches on their appearances before a special occasion or holiday.
