Whether or not we realize it, we subject our skin to some pretty harsh conditions. Sun, wind, dry interior air, and humid summers can tap out our collagen and moisture reserves. As we age, our bodies' natural ability to replenish these important elements diminishes, leaving behind problem skin and wrinkles. Injectable fillers such as JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® and RADIESSE®, can provide Long Island women and men with firmer, more supple facial features and subtle, natural-looking results.

Good Candidates for Dermal Fillers
Just about anyone may benefit from dermal fillers, but the best candidates are women and men who want to soften moderate to severe wrinkles, lines, or folds. Fillers can also augment naturally thin lips or lips that have thinned with age. Patients who are non-smokers and in good overall health generally see the best results from filler injections. The most common concerns patients choose to have treated with dermal fillers are:
- Nasolabial folds
- Fine lines around the mouth ("smoker's lines")
- Thinning or sunken cheeks
- Thinning lips
- A receding chin
- Minor nose deformities
Filler patients often have 1 or more of the above concerns and aren't interested in, or ready for, plastic surgery.
Your Dermal Filler Procedure
A typical facial filler procedure takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes and is performed in our Huntington office. Dr. James Romanelli and Dr. David Pincus value your comfort, so they begin by applying a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area. After your chosen filler is injected, an ice compress will be applied to alleviate soreness and prevent swelling.
Facial fillers require no downtime, so most patients are able to return to their normal activities right away.
Our Menu of Dermal Fillers
Specialized fillers developed in recent years can create improved, longer-lasting results compared to those achieved by earlier generations of fillers. We offer a range of products because some patients see better results from one filler than another. Our experience and expertise enable us to select the right filler — or combination of fillers — for you.
JUVÉDERM® XC: All the fillers in the JUVÉDERM family are made with cross-linked, hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that is found naturally in the body. It helps the skin retain moisture and keeps it looking more youthful.
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®: One sign of aging that may be overlooked is the loss of volume in the cheeks. Volume loss may appear to be less noticeable than wrinkles and lines, but sunken, hollowed-out cheeks can add years to your appearance. VOLUMA is the first filler approved by the FDA to treat the cheek area. It's injected deeper into the skin than most fillers and can last up to 24 months.
JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA: Lips can become thinner as we age, and VOLBELLA is formulated specifically to create plumper, more sensuous lips. It can also be used to provide better definition around the lips and to minimize fine lines around the mouth.
Restylane®: We offer Restylane fillers, too, because not all patients get optimal results with JUVÉDERM. Restylane is also a hyaluronic acid filler and can minimize moderate to severe lines and wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines near the mouth.
Restylane Lyft®: Lyft is quite similar to JUVÉDERM's VOLUMA, but can be used in the lower face in addition to the cheeks. It doesn't last as long as VOLUMA (12 months vs. up to 2 years), but does provide excellent results.
Restylane Silk®: For lip enhancement that is a bit subtler than what's produced by JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA, Silk is usually the appropriate choice. Regardless of the filler used, the skill of the injector is the most important factor in achieving the desired results.
RADIESSE®: This is a heavier, thicker gel that's made with a material called calcium hydroxylapatite, a naturally occurring mineral found in human bone. When injected, RADIESSE stimulates the production of collagen and restores volume to the cheeks and deeper wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds.
Which facial filler is right for me?
At Romanelli Cosmetic Surgery, we offer a variety of FDA-approved facial fillers to ensure our clients receive safe, customized results. Your experienced plastic surgery professional will recommend one or more fillers depending on the areas you wish to treat.
How long will my results last?
The duration of your results depends on individual factors such as which type of filler is used. Restylane lasts for approximately 6 to 9 months, while JUVÉDERM may last for 9 to 12 months or longer, and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® may last up to 2 years. A RADIESSE treatment may last for as long as 18 months. The non-invasive nature of these products makes them a great choice for patients who aren't ready for a surgical plastic surgery procedure. Patient experiences vary, and your results may not be the same as others'.
How are facial fillers different from BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Though they are both delivered via injection and achieve similar results, BOTOX Cosmetic is not a facial filler. BOTOX temporarily renders the underlying muscle inactive, allowing skin above to lie flat and smooth. Facial fillers use hyaluronic acid gel or other materials to fill in wrinkles and add plumpness to areas that have lost volume. Depending on the fillers used, results can last from 6 to 24 months. Our experienced aesthetic specialists can recommend the most appropriate treatment to meet your needs
