Women considering breast reduction on Long Island often have heard about or even tried certain chest exercises to help decrease their breast size or lift their breasts. They assume that building up the underlying muscles will help shrink and firm the breasts. In reality, such exercises – while perhaps a nice way to build upper body muscle tone – cannot make the changes that most women want.
Fiction: Chest exercises can “lift” the breasts.
Because the chest muscle sits behind the breast, exercising cannot impact breast tissue. The only way to effectively tighten the breast skin and create a better position is with surgery.
Fact: Weight loss can help minimize breast size.
If you lose a significant amount of weight, you may notice that your breasts are smaller. However, losing such a dramatic amount of weight may cause unwanted side effects such as breast sagging.
Fiction: You can fool your genes.
Your genetics also play an influential role in your breast shape and size. Consequently, if you are naturally well-endowed, your proportions after weight loss will remain the same. You cannot change your genes.
Fact: Surgery remains your best bet.
Exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy weight are wise lifestyle choices, but they cannot significantly reduce or reshape the breasts – but a surgical breast reduction or breast lift can.
