Throughout the years, breast augmentation has continued to be one of our most popular procedures. More and more women want to improve their confidence and overall appearance – and breast implants are the solution for many.
One of the most common questions Dr. Romanelli hears regarding this procedure is: “What is the best age for breast augmentation?” Well, there is truly no right answer. A statistical report from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2014 found that 50% of women who underwent breast augmentation that year was between the ages of 19 and 34, but adult women of all ages can be good candidates.
There are various factors when it comes to choosing the best time in your life for breast augmentation. Here are a few to consider:
Emotional maturity: Do you fully understand the risks that can be associated with breast augmentation? Do you have realistic goals in mind? These are all important questions to ask yourself. Patients who choose to undergo surgery and act on impulse can sometimes be dissatisfied with their results, when truly they were not 100% sure what they wanted in the first place.
Pregnancy: Weight gain and stretched skin from pregnancy can have adverse effects on your breast augmentation. It is not uncommon for women to postpone breast augmentation until after they are finished having children. There are also concerns with breastfeeding after augmentation.
Type of implant: You must be 22 years old to receive silicone implants, but you can get saline implants at the age of 18. We can help you select which implant is right for you during your consultation with one of our plastic surgeons.
Health: This is perhaps the most important factor. No matter how young or old, patients must be in good overall health to get elective surgery. If you are curious as to whether you are healthy enough for surgery or not, request a consultation with one of our surgeons.
