If you’ve just begun your research into this procedure, the first thing you need to know is that you’re not alone. Having performed mommy makeovers here on Long Island for years, I can tell you that my patients are moms of all shapes, sizes, and ages, who simply share the goal of wanting to feel good about their bodies.
And that’s just at my practice. Nationwide, thousands undergo the procedure each year. Here’s what those patients are thinking about.
The Procedure Itself
If you’ve passed the curiosity phase and moved to the procedure research phase, you’ve probably already learned that the term “mommy makeover” is applied pretty broadly, but it generally involves a combination of breast enhancement and body contouring procedures. Some patients decide to include facial rejuvenation procedures as part of their mommy makeovers.
That means your surgery can “mix and match,” so to speak, from a variety of procedures:
- Breast augmentation
- Breast lift
- Breast reduction
- Tummy tuck
- Eyelid surgery
- Dermal filler treatments
As you evaluate other surgeons, you may well see other combinations of procedures, too.
The broader point: A mommy makeover is really a custom procedure — but whatever combination you choose, it’s organized around a common goal: helping moms undo some of the unwanted changes to their bodies that were a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, and aging.
Cost and Recovery
As you might expect, these two elements of a mommy makeover can vary quite a bit, depending on the procedures you’ve chosen to undergo. However, a few things do apply no matter which procedures you choose.
First, you’ll save on cost overall by combining procedures (versus having each procedure done separately). When procedures are performed individually, many of the unavoidable costs associated with surgery, such as fees for using the operating room, will be included each time you visit that operating room.
Combining procedures also cuts down on the time you’ll spend under anesthesia, which makes your final cost less expensive, and it allows your body to proceed through recovery more quickly.
Bottom line: It’s what you make of it.
I’ve already discussed how mommy makeovers don’t have an age limit, per se. So long as you’re healthy enough to have surgery, it’s a possibility. And ultimately, the major advantage of a mommy makeover is that you’re free to make it your own.
