Asymmetrical breasts are more common than most people think. Many of the breast augmentation patients at my Long Island practice wish to balance the symmetry of their breasts while also increasing their size. Fortunately, there are several ways to achieve this.
Silicone implants are the most popular option for women undergoing surgical breast augmentation. Their natural look and feel appeal to many women, while their strength and longevity make them a great “bang for the buck.” Addressing asymmetry with silicone implants is relatively straightforward — we can simply use implants of different sizes to compensate for the asymmetry.
Saline implants are another good choice for evening out the size of breasts. Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater once they are inserted, and we can fill them to different sizes for precise symmetry.
Fat grafting is a relatively new technique for breast augmentation. Fat is removed from one part of the body, such as the abdomen, via liposuction. It is then purified and added to the breasts for more natural enhancement. Fat grafting can be used on its own to add volume to the breasts without implants, or it can be used in conjunction with implants. We can inject fat in precise amounts and locations around the breasts to produce smooth, symmetric contours.
