If breathing problems exist, septoplasty (reshaping a deviated septum) and other corrections to breathing can be made. While reshaping the nose is not covered by medical insurance, improving breathing passages may be.

Depending on the type and extent of your surgery, Dr. Romanelli will typically reshape the nose entirely through incisions hidden within the nostrils. This is called the Closed Rhinoplasty technique. If a bump is being removed, Dr. Romanelli will reduce the cartilage and bone causing it. If needed, Dr. Romanelli will fracture and re-set the nose.
In some cases, a small incision across the columella (the column of skin between your nostrils) is also needed. This is called the Open Rhinoplasty technique, and in Dr. Romanelli's practice is needed in less than 5% of all rhinoplasty surgeries. With the Open Rhinoplasty method there will be a longer period of swelling and numbness of the tip of your nose, but for select patients it is the best method.
