Eyelid Surgery - Recovery and Results
Immediately following your eyelid surgery at our Long Island plastic surgery center you will awaken with some blurriness of your vision, since Dr. Romanelli will lubricate your eyes during surgery with a protective ointment. Swelling is managed by the use of cold compresses, and you should sleep with your head elevated for at least the first night to keep the swelling down.
Most of our Long Island patients are surprised by how painless the procedure and recovery process are.

Initially, your eyes will be sensitive to light and wind. You might also feel tightness and dryness around your eyes. For most patients there is minimal discomfort that can be relieved with an over the counter pain reliever. Dr. Romanelli will also recommend moisturizing drops for the first week or so after surgery. They can relieve the initial dryness which most patients experience. You will benefit by wearing dark sunglasses for a couple of weeks to protect your eyes and to conceal any remaining bruising.
Stitches are usually removed between 3-5 days after surgery, after which cover-up makeup may be applied. Most of our Long Island blepharoplasty patients are comfortable seeing friends at dinner about a week after surgery. If you are planning your eyelid lift prior to attending an important event like a retirement party, silver anniversary or significant birthday, you will want to schedule your surgery 6 weeks prior to the event as complete recovery time varies from patient to patient.
Eyelid surgery results tend to be dramatic and last for many years. Your eyes will continue to heal, and you will continue to see improved results for up to 6 months. Once your final results are achieved, your eyes will generally continue to look wide, rested and alert for many years.
Many patients who have eyelid surgery also take full advantage of our medical spa services to enhance the tone, texture and pigment of their skin, or they often combine their eyelid lift with a facelift or forehead lift.
