Brachioplasty - Recovery & Results

Immediately following your arm lift at our Long Island plastic surgery center you will feel groggy and tired for the first few days. It is important to get a lot of rest to help your body heal. You will not be able to lift your arms fully for the first few days, and you will need to avoid exercise for at least 2 weeks and strenuous activities or contact sports for 4 weeks. If your job requires light or no physical exertion, you should be ready to return to work 1 week after your procedure.

You may experience some pain and discomfort that can easily be alleviated with prescribed medication. It is very important not to take aspirin or certain anti-inflammatory medications prior to surgery, as they may increase the amount of bruising. Swelling and bruising will start to subside after 72 hours. Any non-absorbable stitches will be removed in 5 to 7 days.
Arm lift surgery permanently alters the shape and contour of your upper arms although your skin and muscles will continue to age over time. Eating well, leading a healthy lifestyle and staying physically fit can help enhance your results. Scars are an unavoidable reality after brachioplasty, but the improvement in shape should be well worth it. There are many options to improve scars, if needed, including gels, silicone sheeting, cortisone and laser treatments.
