Injectable Fillers to Turn Back the Clock
Remember when your face was full? You may have even thought you were chubby, with pinch-able cheeks and not a line or furrow in sight? Now it might seem as though time has etched the years right into your skin. It's not as though you need a facelift on Long Island — you just need a little volume to plump up your skin and diminish the furrows.
Restylane was the first hyaluronic acid filler, which works by attracting water to itself in order to fill lines and plump lips. Newer hyaluronic fillers include Perlane and JUVÉDERM Injectable Gel. Each of these fillers has different uses. For vertical lines of the upper lip, JUVÉDERM Ultra is our usual preference, since its particle size is smallest, and it permits us to directly fill these small lines.
Duration of results differs with each filler. Restylane lasts for 6 months or longer, while JUVÉDERM lasts 9 months or so, and Radiesse lasts 12-18 months. If you wish to refresh these treatments, it is recommended that you do so before the effects of your previous treatment wear off completely.
For enhancing the cheeks, Perlane; and Radiesse are our preferred fillers. For lip enhancement, we usually recommend Restylane or JUVÉDERM.
From the makers of BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM Injectable Gel is an FDA approved hyaluronic -acid dermal filler that is used to:
- Enhance and plump lips or cheeks
- Smooth marionette lines and deep furrows, and
- Fill in scar depressions, including acne scars
Facial fillers are not a permanent enhancements so you don't have to worry about making a permanent change you may not like. You can experiment with your enhancements until you find the perfect fill.
Dr. Romanelli wants your facial filler injections to be comfortable, so he begins your 30 to 45 minute treatment by applying a topical anesthetic, as well as injecting a local anesthetic into the area to be treated. Immediately after he injects the dermal filler, he will apply ice compresses to the area. Because these are a no downtime injectable filler treatment, most Long Island patients return to work or normal social activities immediately following their injections.
Some patients may experience bruising or swelling at the injection site. If this occurs, these effects will diminish in a day or two.
