BOTOX Cosmetic Is No Miracle. It's Science.

BOTOX Cosmetic is grounded in science, so it's reliable, predictable and repeatable. Since its approval by the FDA in 2002, millions of injections of the botulinum A toxin — a purified form of protein — have been safely administered in the United States (over 4,000,000 treatments in 2006 alone), making BOTOX Cosmetic the most popular cosmetic medical procedure on Long Island and across the country.

Normally, when facial muscles contract, the skin wrinkles. Over time, these wrinkles become deeper and more permanent. When small amounts of BOTOX Cosmetic are strategically injected between the eyebrows, around the eyes, across the forehead or along the neck, it inactivates the facial muscles, allowing the skin to lay flat for an extended period of time. With continued use, BOTOX Cosmetic can significantly reduce:

• Crow's feet
• Frown lines
• Forehead lines, and
• Neck bands

Your 10 to 30 minute treatment begins with a cleansing of the injection site. Then, a topical anesthetic will be used to help numb the treatment area. Dr. Romanelli administers BOTOX Cosmetic using very tiny needles so discomfort is minimal. In fact, most of our Long Island patients are able to return to work or normal social activities immediately following BOTOX Cosmetic injections.

Occasionally, slight bruising or swelling may appear at the injection site and ice will reduce this affect. Rarely, some patients will have a headache after treatment, although other patients regularly have treatments to help prevent migraines. You should keep your head elevated for at least 4 hours after the treatment and avoid rubbing or touching the treatment area. An information sheet, including possible side effects, is reviewed with you prior to the actual treatment.

BOTOX Cosmetic results are visible within 5 to 7 days of treatment and can last for 3 to 4 months. If treatment is continued, results tend to last longer between appointments. If you'd like more permanent results, you may want to consider a face lift on Long Island.
